Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a range of street dance styles, made popular by dance crews in the 1970’s. It has taken off enormously in popularity thanks to its prevalence in TV shows, music videos, and movies. This fun, high-energy dance style allows the dancer to break away from the structure and traditional technique of classical dance.

There is a focus on connecting to the music and lyrics, and exuding confidence and flair. This emphasis on attitude, personal style, and musicality makes Hip Hop effortlessly fun. Learn grooves, dynamics, and choreography that is intended to create a party atmosphere, and hype each other up!

Popping is a street dance style characterized by the quick contracting and releasing of muscles, creating a jerking or "popping" effect. This technique is used to emphasize the beat of the music and can be performed with various body parts or isolations.

Waacking is a vibrant street dance style originating in Los Angeles gay clubs during the disco era of the 1970s. It's characterized by exaggerated arm movements, dramatic posing, and a highly expressive, almost theatrical style. The name "waacking" comes from the sound of the arms "whacking" out to the side.
